Choice Board Examples & Strategies
Use the Choice Board to allow students to display their voice and choice within their learning. The Choice Board can be used in multiple ways by the teacher to:
- Engage students who finish early
- Assess what students have learned at different points throughout the Unit
- Extend the Unit or lesson
- Allow students to display their learning in the Share section
The Choice Board is intended to provide content that can be added to the classroom’s existing Choice Board or to any bulletin board in the classroom.

Terrific Turbines Research how underwater turbines produce energy. Find out the pros and cons of energy produced from underwater turbines. Write a paragraph about the process and draw pictures to illustrate it. |
Emcee! Make a video of your team or another team practicing or competing. Then try your hand at being an emcee by announcing what is happening as you watch the video! After you practice, record the audio. |
Remake Your Ocean Robot Think about a specific task from Ocean Science Exploration that was challenging for you. Design an addition for your robot that would make that task easier to complete. Write a paragraph about how your addition would help you with the task. |

Undersea Task Time Design a new task using the game elements in Ocean Science Exploration. Write out the rules for your task, and practice it yourself. Then challenge your teammates to try your new task! |
Write a Letter to an Engineer! Write a letter to an underwater engineer asking this person what they do. Include details about the Ocean Science Exploration tasks you've completed or are excited about undertaking in the next days. |
Adventure Article for a Magazine Write an informational adventure article about one of your tasks that describes what you are working on in your Ocean Science Exploration. Include information about what you learned and what challenges you had. |

Get Ready to ROV Research Research the different models and uses for ROVs and the places that these robots have gone that humans never have! Write a diary entry from the perspective of an ROV exploring a new place. |
Draw Your Underwater Adventure Draw yourself in one of the Ocean Science Exploration fields. Are you controlling your robot on land or are you in a scuba suit underwater repairing your robot? Be creative! |
Underwater Mission Video Create a video episode for the Ocean Science Adventure Show by choosing a stage of the competition. Create a storyboard and characters. |
