Facilitating the Build
In this Seek section, groups will add the conveyors and diverter to their Workcell build.
What the Teacher Will Do:
- Tell students get into their groups with their assigned Workcells.
- Instruct groups to follow the Build Instructions linked on this page.
- Inform students that they will be cutting metal during these build instructions, so they need to follow certain safety precautions.
- Review this Knowledge Base article with students about precautions and safety guidelines
- Inform students that they will also be creating their own V5 Smart Cables during these build instructions.
- Tell students that making cables incorrectly could potentially damage the V5 Brain or the devices connected to it. Thus, it is important to make cables carefully and pay particular attention to the steps.
- Review this Knowledge Base article with students about how to make their own V5 Smart Cables using the Crimping Tool. This article is also linked in the build instructions for this Lab.
- As groups are building, circle the room and assist as needed.
Go to the V5 Workcell Educator Certification for additional suggestions on facilitating the build.

Teacher Tips
- Use the open ended wrench to hold the nylock nut in place while screwing in the star drive screws.
-
Use a piece of string to measure from the insert of the motor to the port of the Brain to determine the length of cable needed.
-
Make sure students are comparing their build to the finished image of each step. Checking each step will help students to find errors sooner rather than later in a larger build.
-
All of the 6T High Strength Sprockets and 1 of the 30T High Strength Sprockets in this build use the Gear Metal Insert. Ensure students check the part numbers listed while they are building to note the difference between the gear metal insert and the high strength gear insert.
