Mysterious Alien

Choose one uncompleted Mysterious Alien picture from the Reflection Symmetry Mysterious Alien Coloring Sheets slideshow. Create an algorithm to use [Drive for] and [Turn for] blocks and the VR Pen to drive the VR Robot to fill specific colors in the grids to complete the alien picture by reflecting the colored image at the left of the mirror line. Create the Mysterious Alien for your own Space Alien Adventure!

  • Choose and download a Mysterious Alien Coloring Sheet as a PNG file from this Google slideshow.
  • Select the Art Canvas+ Playground and upload the selected Alien Coloring Sheet.
  • Use your knowledge of symmetry to determine the color to fill in each grid on the Coloring Sheet.
  • Code the VR Robot to complete the Mysterious Alien picture.
    • Drive the VR Robot to your desired position.
    • Use the Drive for] and  [Turn for] blocks to navigate the VR Robot to move in the direction parallel to the x-axis or y-axis.
    • To fill in the adjacent grids with the same color continuously, use a loop to repeat the [Drive for] and [Fill area with color] commands for a set number of times.
    • Add a note in your project to describe the story of your own Alien Space Adventure!
    • Print your coloring page as an illustration in the story! 
  • Give your Mysterious Alien a name. Use the [print] block to print the name to the Print Console.

Helpful Hints

  • Each grid on the Coloring Sheet measures 200mm by 200mm. The distance the robot travels when moving one grid in a direction parallel to the x-axis or parallel to the y-axis is 200mm.   
  • For help with using Loops in the project, please select the “TUTORIALS” button in VEXcode VR and choose the Using Loops Tutorial.

  • After completing the selected alien picture, you can design your own symmetrical aliens using this grid sheet.
