Choice Board Examples & Strategies

Use the Choice Board to allow students to display their voice and choice within their learning. The Choice Board can be used in multiple ways by the teacher to:

  • Engage students who finish early
  • Assess what students have learned at different points throughout the Unit
  • Extend the Unit or lesson
  • Allow students to display their learning in the Share section

The Choice Board is intended to provide content that can be added to the classroom’s existing Choice Board or to any bulletin board in the classroom.

The following is the Choice Board for this Unit:

Choice Board
Look for Shapes
Use the Pantograph to create different shapes with the beams. How many math shapes can you make? Draw and label them on paper.
Tracing Fun
What other classroom objects can you find to trace with the Pantograph? Do some work better than others? Why do you think that is?
Make a Change
Move the pen attachment or tracing attachment to a different location. What happens to your drawing?
Do the Math
Use a Blueprint worksheet or graph paper and trace a shape. Count the approximate number of squares your original tracing and the smaller drawing covered. How are they related?
Build It!
Use the pieces in your VEX GO Kit to build an astronaut school from your design.
Miniature House
Make a simple drawing of your house, then trace it with the Pantograph to create a miniature version.
Look and List
Look around the classroom and list objects that match the shapes of VEX GO pieces you've used in this Unit. How many can you find in 90 seconds?
Write a Letter
Write a letter to the inventor of the pantograph, Christoph Scheiner, to tell him how you are using the pantograph.
Make a Cartoon
Create a cartoon strip about an engineer or designer using the Pantograph to create something.
