Encouraging Vocabulary Usage
The following are additional ways to facilitate vocabulary usage as students are engaged in the activities throughout this Unit.
Students should be encouraged to use the vocabulary terms:
- Throughout all of the activities
- As they are working in groups
- As they are reflecting
- As they are sharing their knowledge and experience
Tips for Encouraging Vocabulary Usage
- Play a game of scale! Ask students to find similarly shaped objects in the room that have different scales (for example, point out the circle shape of a clock versus the circle shape of a cup). Then, ask students to describe the scale of the objects in terms of larger or smaller.
- Create a brochure: Create a brochure for a vocabulary term. The brochure should include pictures, definition, an example of how you can use the vocabulary word.
- Word Detective: Hide vocabulary words around the room. Students can work with a partner find the words, then define the word, draw a picture and use it in a sentence. Students can do this activity throughout the unit.
