In this section, you will first check the firmware of the V5 Brain to ensure it is up to date. If it is not, you will walk through the steps to update it. After the firmware has been checked and is up to date, you will use the ‘Arm Mastering’ example project to determine the mastering values for the arm mounted on the VEX V5 Workcell that will be used in all subsequent Labs.
Determining the mastering values for the arm mounted on the V5 Workcell is important for two main reasons.
- It ensures that the V5 Workcell is built and assembled properly. The potentiometer placement in the build is important and must be done properly in order for the V5 Workcell to function as intended.
- Obtaining the mastering values ensures that the arm mounted on the V5 Workcell has a known location to start from. This allows the arm mounted on the V5 Workcell to be calibrated to the same known location. This is an important piece of information that is used when programming with VEXcode V5 to ensure that the V5 Workcell moves as intended.
You will begin by checking the firmware to ensure that the V5 Brain functions correctly.
