Choice Board
Choice Board Examples & Strategies
Use the Choice Board to allow students to display their voice and choice within their learning. The Choice Board can be used in multiple ways by the teacher to:
- Engage students who finish early
- Assess what students have learned at different points throughout the Unit
- Extend the Unit or lesson
- Allow students to display their learning in the Share section
The Choice Board is intended to provide content that can be added to the classroom’s existing Choice Board or to any bulletin board in the classroom.
The following is the Choice Board for this Unit:

---|---|---|
Crop Production What happens to crops like corn after they are picked? Use classroom resources to do some research to find out! Write a paragraph about the process and draw pictures to illustrate it. Share it with your class! |
Emcee! An emcee describes everything that is happening in a robotics competition match, one play at a time. Make a video of your team or another team practicing or competing. Then try your hand at being an emcee by announcing what is happening as you watch the video! After you practice, record the audio and share it with your class. |
Different Drive Modes Test out each of the four Drive Modes available in the Drive tab of VEXcode GO: Tank Drive, Right Arcade, Left Arcade and Split Arcade. Set up a short course in your classroom using classroom objects, and drive through your course using each of the four modes. Which one do you like best? Which is the most difficult for you? |
Farming Fortune Can you design a better way to collect the crops and process them? Change your robot by adding pieces from the kit to better harvest and grab the crops. Illustrate your design for another student to recreate your design. Include steps to recreate your design. |
Competition Chatter Imagine you're on stage after the big VEX GO competition. What do you want your fans to know? What would you say about how your driving went with your Hero Robot? Write down your answers and give advice to your fans about how to compete in the Village Engineering Construction VEX GO Competition. |
Timed House Challenge Time yourself taking the different house pieces off of the trailers and putting the house together. How long does it take you? Can you add pieces to your Hero Robot to help you? Engineer your Hero Robot to finish the task in the least amount of time. |
Adventures in the Village Imagine you are a traveler to this village. You can cross the bridge, see the water tower and produce some crops. Write a diary entry describing your experience, and illustrate it. |
Engineer Letter What do you want to know about being an engineer? Spend some time thinking of questions to ask a bridge engineer, crop device engineer, water pipe engineer or construction engineer. What advice can you ask this engineer? Write a letter asking this engineer about these questions. Use words like how, why, what, where and when. |
Robot Redesign Think about a specific task from the Village Engineering Construction that was challenging for you. Design an addition for your robot that would make that task easier to complete. Draw a picture of it, and label the parts. Write a few sentences explaining why it would help you to accomplish that task more easily. |
