Teacher Tips icon Teacher Tips

  • Create a round-robin (all-play-all) tournament if there are more than two teams participating in the challenge and time allows.

  • Organize an elimination tournament if there are more than two teams competing and time is limited.

A side view diagram of the Clawbot beginning to drive up a wooden ramp. There is a dashed arrow indicating the path of the arm at two heights - 25.5cm and 38cm. The ramp consists of an incline leading to a flat middle section, then a downward ramp, and the path is supported by vertical beams. The front wheels of the robot are on the ramp, while the back wheels are still on the ground.

Claw Arm Challenge

This is a challenge to see which V5 Clawbot can make it over the ramp and to the finish line first with their V5 Clawbot's arm extended out farther and farther each round.

Challenge rules:

  • All V5 Clawbots will be controlled wirelessly and running the Drive program.
  • All competing V5 Clawbots must transport a full 500 mL bottle from the starting line to the finishing line without allowing the bottle to touch the floor.
  • Any V5 Clawbot that tips over loses the match.
  • During the first round, all V5 Clawbots must have their claw arms down in the starting position.
  • During the second round, all V5 Clawbots must have their claw arms raised at least 25.5cm above its starting position.
  • During the third round, all V5 Clawbots must have their claw arms raised at least 38cm above its starting position.
  • The same team member cannot control the V5 Clawbot for two rounds in a row. So at least two different teammates will need to participate across the three rounds of the challenge.

  • Have Fun!
