Challenge

Teacher Toolbox icon Teacher Toolbox - Facilitating the Rethink Section

In this Rethink challenge, groups will be identifying where pinch points can be found on the Workcell.

What the Teacher Will Do:

  • As a whole class, introduce the challenge to students.
  • Break students into their groups. Ensure they have their assigned Workcell and their engineering notebooks.
  • Instruct groups to follow the steps on this page to complete the challenge.
  • While groups are completing the challenge, circle the room.
    • Ask students about how they are approaching the challenge. How are they determining where a pinch point might be?
  • After groups have completed the challenge, bring students back together for a whole-class discussion. Ask students some of these questions to wrap up the challenge.
    • What pinch points did your group identify? How do those compare to another group's identified pinch points?
    • What did your group find difficult about this challenge?
    • How did your group work together to solve the challenge? What could you do to improve your collaboration in the next Lab?
  • Use the Collaboration Rubric (Google Doc / .docx / .pdf) to provide students with feedback throughout the Rethink challenge.

For more information on how to facilitate the Rethink challenge, go to the V5 Workcell Educator Certification.

In this challenge, you will use the information learned during this Lab to identify the pinch points on the Workcell.

Complete build

Follow these steps to complete the Lab 2 Rethink Challenge:

  • Sketch the image of the Workcell in your Engineering Notebook.
  • Manually move the Workcell to determine the potential pinch points.
    • Remove the Mastering Jig before manually moving the Workcell.
  • Record these pinch points in your Engineering Notebook by circling or highlighting them.

  • Print out this image for students and have them place it in their Engineering Notebook, instead of sketching it. Students could also take pictures of their own Workcell.

  • To extend the challenge, ask students to explain how they will encourage best safety practices while working with the Workcell and the student-identified pinch points.
