Lab 1 - Crater Collection

Main Focus Question: How can I drive my Hero Robot to move game objects out of craters?

Students will be introduced to the Stage 1 tasks:
- Remove samples from the craters.
- Rescue the rover.
Students will practice driving their robot to remove samples from craters and rescue the rover.
Students will compete in the Crater Collection Competition.

Lab 2 - Lift onto the Lab

Main Focus Question: How can I drive my Hero Robot to deliver samples to the Lab?

Students will be introduced to the Stage 2 tasks:
- Move samples to the Lab.
- Place samples on top of the Lab.
- Place samples on the matching colored square on top of the Lab.
Students will practice driving their robot to move samples to the Lab, place them on top of the Lab, and place them on the matching colored square on top of the Lab.
Students will compete in the Lift Onto the Lab Competition.

Lab 3 - Blast Off!

Main Focus Question: How can I drive my Hero Robot to lift and lower game elements?

Students will be introduced to the Stage 3 tasks:
- Tilt the Solar Panel down
- Clear the debris from the Landing Site
- Place the Helicopter on the Landing Site
- Lift the Rocket Ship upright
- End the with the robot touching the red tile.
Students will practice driving their robot to complete the Stage 3 tasks.
Students will compete in the Blast Off! Competition.

Lab 4 - Fuel Cell Frenzy!

Main Focus Question: How can I drive my Hero Robot to move the Fuel Cells to the Rocket Ship and the Landing Site?

Students will be introduced to the Stage 4 tasks:
- Remove the Fuel Cells from the craters.
- Move Fuel Cells to the Rocket Ship.
- Move Fuel Cells to the Landing Site.
Students will practice driving their robot to complete the Stage 4 tasks.
Students will compete in the Fuel Frenzy Competition.

Lab 5 - Mars Math Expedition Competition

Main Focus Question: How can I compete in the Mars Math Expedition Competition?

Students will apply what they have learned in the previous Labs to compete in the Mars Math Expedition competition!

Unit Standards

Unit Standards will be addressed in every Lab within the Unit.

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)

(1.7) Global Collaborator - 1.7c: Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.

How Standard is Achieved: In Labs 1-5, students must work together with their teammates in order to build the robot, drive the robot to practice the given tasks for the Lab, and to compete in each Lab's Competition. They will take on specific responsibilities, such as Builder or Journalist roles during building, or driver during the competition, in order for their team to be successful. Additionally, they must work together throughout the Labs and in the Unit Competition to determine a strategy for scoring as many points as possible.
