In this section, you will explore the Cartesian coordinate system and the (x, y, z) location of the arm mounted on the VEX V5 Workcell by first loading the ‘Arm Display Position’ example project from VEXcode V5. Once opened, you will observe the changes in the blocks compared to the project from the previous Lab.

After opening and observing the example project, you will then input the mastering values that you obtained from Lab 1 into the [Set mastering] block before downloading and running the project.

While running the project, you will manually move the arm mounted on the V5 Workcell to observe how movement changes the (x, y, z) coordinates displayed on the V5 Brain’s screen.

After you have observed how the arm mounted on the V5 Workcell’s movement affects changes in the (x, y, z) coordinates, you will use this information to locate the origin (coordinate (0, 0, 0)) of the Workcell. You will complete the activity by documenting the location of the origin in your Engineering Notebook.

You will begin by opening the ‘Arm Display Position’ example project.
