Choice Board
Choice Board Examples & Strategies
Use the Choice Board to allow students to display their voice and choice within their learning. The Choice Board can be used in multiple ways by the teacher to:
- Engage students who finish early
- Assess what students have learned at different points throughout the Unit
- Extend the Unit or lesson
- Allow students to display their learning in the Share section
The Choice Board is intended to provide content that can be added to the classroom’s existing Choice Board or to any bulletin board in the classroom.
The following is the Choice Board for this Unit:

Eye Sensor, Eye Sensor, What do you see? Go find other classroom objects, and test your project to figure out what other things the Eye Sensor can detect. What is similar about the objects that it detects? Keep a list of what you test, and if the 123 Robot drove to it and stopped. |
Forever and ever How else can you use a Forever loop? Build a project in VEXcode 123 to make the 123 Robot drive in a repeated pattern. Test your project and see how the 123 Robot moves. Why does the [Forever] block keep the 123 Robot moving? |
In a Loop Think about patterns that repeat in your behavior, like sleeping at night and waking in the morning, or going to school then having a weekend. Draw or write your own Forever loop, with those behaviors inside the loop. |
Rover Journal Imagine you are a rover, and write or draw a journal entry to tell about the things you found and did today on Mars. |
Add an Eye Sensor What is a device or object that you use at home or school, that could be more useful with an Eye Sensor? Draw your design, and write about why the Eye Sensor would make it better. |
Drive until Directions Write or draw directions to somewhere in your school using “drive until”— like “Drive until you get to the desk, then turn right.” What do you see along the way that tells you where to go next? Test out your directions with a friend. |
