Choice Board Examples & Strategies

Use the Choice Board to allow students to display their voice and choice within their learning. The Choice Board can be used in multiple ways by the teacher to:

  • Engage students who finish early
  • Assess what students have learned at different points throughout the Unit
  • Extend the Unit or lesson
  • Allow students to display their learning in the Share section

The Choice Board is intended to provide content that can be added to the classroom’s existing Choice Board or to any bulletin board in the classroom.

The following is the Choice Board for this Unit:

Choice Board
Invent a Programming Language
Imagine you are a robot. What command would make you move forward 1 step, turn left, turn right, or make a sound? Write or draw the commands for those 4 actions, and give it to a friend to see if they can code you.
Make a Sequence Puzzle
Draw or write 4 or 5 steps you do, to do a task in your classroom, like sharpen a pencil. Then cut them out. Mix them up, and give them to your partner to put in the correct order.
Mixed Up Name
Write the letters in your name in a mixed-up order on a 123 Tile or a piece of paper. Then code your 123 Robot to drive to the letters in your name in order, so you can spell your name with your robot.
Robot Map
Use a 123 Tile to make a map. Draw or make your house in one square, and your school in another. How many ways can you code your 123 Robot to get from home to school?
Behavior Bingo
Make a bingo card with different behaviors that you do at home or at school. At the end of the day, play “Behavior Bingo” and check off how many of those behaviors you did during the day. Did you get 5 in a row?
Touch Tales
Think about what your 123 Robot might do for fun. Write or draw a story to tell how your 123 Robot uses its touch buttons to do a fun activity.
