Practice

In the last section, you learned how to code with Drivetrain blocks, and you learned how to code an individual motor with Motion blocks. Now, you are going to apply what you have learned to code a Clawbot to complete the Capture the Buckyball activity.

In this activity, your Clawbot will have to drive to a Buckyball, collect the Buckyball with the claw, and drive it back to the Starting Zone. Watch the video below to see how you can apply what you have learned to complete the Capture the Buckyball practice activity.

Now it's your turn to complete the Capture the Buckyball practice activity!

In this animation, the robot will autonomously drive to the Buckyball, collect it with the claw, then drop the Buckyball back in the Starting Zone. This animation shows one possible path your robot could take to complete the Capture the Buckyball practice activity.

Use this document as a reference to complete the practice activity.

As you complete the Capture the Buckyball practice activity, document your findings in your engineering notebook.

  • Think about what actions the Clawbot will need to complete to collect the cube and return it to the Starting Zone.
  • Measure the distances that the robot needs to drive and turn to complete these actions so that you can include this in your code.

Prepare for the Challenge

In Compete (on the next page), you will code your Clawbot to collect three Buckyballs and deliver them to the Starting Zone. Learn how to compete in the challenge, check your understanding, then practice for the challenge.

The goal of this challenge is to have your robot drive and collect all three Buckyballs on the Field and return them to the Starting Zone in the fastest time.

Watch this animation to see an example of how your robot could move in a successful run of the challenge.

This is just one possible path your robot could take to complete the Collector Challenge.
