Show Your Learning

Active Share

Have each group share how they used the debugging process to identify, find and fix the bug in their project.

  • Have students show the Coder to demonstrate how they knew which card was causing the bug along with the Coder card they used to fix it, and why.

Discussion Prompts

Digital Documentation

  • Take short before and after photos or videos of students showing the project with the bug (before) and the fixed project (after). Share them with your classroom community to help reinforce the debugging process as a positive part of the coding process.

Student-Driven Visible Thinking

  • Have students create a bug drawing using each step of the debugging process. Students may choose to use one word for each of the body sections of an insect: head, thorax and abdomen.
  • Make a classroom caterpillar bug display using construction paper circles. Students can add a circle that describes the bug and how they fixed it each time they identify, find and fix a bug in their code. Students can add to the caterpillar throughout the school year to show how many bugs they have fixed over time.

Metacognition-Reflecting Together

  • Ask students to explain what advice they would give to another student who was upset because their coding project wasn't behaving as intended.
  • Ask students if they can think of other situations during a school day when they might use a process similar to the debugging process to solve problems.
