Show Your Learning
Active Share
- Place an obstacle on a central 123 Field and have groups come up to test their projects. Change the location of the obstacle each time a group comes up to test. While students share their projects, ask them to describe how the 123 Robot is moving, and how they would describe what the [Drive until] block does.
- Highlight that there are multiple solutions to the same challenge, by asking students about how their projects are similar or different to one another, and why they chose the blocks they did, to indicate that the obstacle is present.
Discussion Prompts
Digital Documentation
- Take short videos during the Active Share, as students share their projects and talk about how the [Drive until] block works. Share this with your classroom community to show how students were introduced to the concept of a sensor.
Student-Driven Visible Thinking
- Take note of students’ words as they are working in their groups. Pay particular attention to the ways that they are describing the Eye Sensor and its functionality. Add these to your classroom 123 space, to show students’ initial impressions. Refer back to them in future Labs or activities, with your students, as they learn more about the Eye Sensor. How has their thinking changed?
Metacognition-Reflecting Together
- If someone came to our class, who did not know about the Eye Sensor in the 123 Robot, how would you explain what it does to them?
- How did you work together to build and test your project?
- What else do you think the Eye Sensor could detect in our classroom? How could you test your theory?
